Bloodstone returns to crowdfunding later this year

A decade in the making for Druid City Games.

Bloodstone returns to crowdfunding later this year

After the original campaign was waylaid due to the pandemic, Bloodstone makes its return to crowdfunding via Gamefound:

Druid City Games (Wonderland’s War, Tidal Blades) is proud to announce Bloodstone, a project more than ten years in the making. Designed by James Hudson and illustrated by David Kegg (Star Wars: Imperial Assault, Sorcerer City, Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar), Bloodstone represents the culmination of a decade of iteration, refinement, and worldbuilding.

In Bloodstone, you play as a captured champion forced by Vanira to fight for her amusement in a brutal arena. Empowered by the Bloodstone, she resurrects fallen warriors to battle again and again... An innovative dice system grants players unique abilities to enhance themselves or sabotage their rivals. When the carnage grows dull, Vanira unleashes monstrous horrors into the fray. Players will be forced to use their wit and cunning to outmaneuver their enemies and survive the endless cycle of bloodshed.

“This project is my passion.” said James Hudson, Owner of Druid City Games. “I’ve been working on it for over a decade. We first launched during COVID, but like so many things at that time, circumstances forced us to cancel. One night, while watching Wil Wheaton play Titansgrave, I was inspired to create a dynamic dice system for an arena battle game, something that paid homage to my years adventuring in the worlds of Diablo and World of Warcraft. After years of refinement and relentless iteration, I’m proud to present what I believe is
the definitive version of Bloodstone. It’s finally ready to make its debut.”

Bloodstone will be coming to Gamefound Q2.

The original campaign launched in 2021, during the height of global pandemic disruption and was ultimately canceled due to rapidly escalating production costs. At the time, material pricing, particularly wood components, had surged dramatically, and ocean freight rates were at historic highs coinciding with the fulfillment of Wonderland’s War. Moving forward under those conditions
would have required significant compromises to either quality or sustainability. “Canceling the campaign (the only one I’ve ever canceled) was the right decision. It’s been a long five years, but now the time is finally right for Bloodstone’s return.” Hudson said.

In the years since, Druid City Games has reevaluated production strategies, refined the game’s systems, and sharpened its focus on delivering a gameplay first experience shaped directly by community feedback. Bloodstone is designed to create electric tabletop moments, where players hold their breath and stand to watch a pivotal roll. Its innovative dice driven system blends tactical depth with accessibility, offering meaningful decisions, dramatic swings, and a
ruleset that welcomes both seasoned competitors and newcomers alike.

A STRATEGIC MOVE: BLOODSTONE LAUNCHES ON GAMEFOUND

In addition to launching Bloodstone on Gamefound, Druid City Games has entered a minimum three-campaign partnership with Gamefound. Built specifically for tabletop publishing, Gamefound offers tools and infrastructure designed to better serve both creators and backers.

With integrated pledge management, built-in Stretch Pay, and campaign features tailored to board game projects, the platform allows for a more streamlined and cohesive experience from launch to fulfillment. This partnership represents a long-term commitment to improving transparency, efficiency, and overall campaign execution.

“Gamefound feels like the perfect home for Bloodstone, and launching this new campaign as our first project on the platform simply feels right.” said James Hudson.

In recent years, crowdfunding across the industry has faced increased complexity, rising costs, and logistical challenges. Moving to Gamefound is a deliberate step toward addressing challenges and elevating the campaign experience. Druid City Games believes this partnership will reinforce the energy, clarity, an excitement that should define every project launch.
