Bizarre Warhammer 40K TV rumor likely originated from AI slop website

Henry Cavill is almost certainly not conducting lore audits on Warhammer 40K scripts at 4 AM in the morning

New rumors about an upcoming live-action Warhammer 40K project are making their way across the internet, although the source for the rumors seems incredibly dodgy. Over the past few days, sites like MovieWeb, Screen Rant, and FandomWire posted articles about a report that alleges that Henry Cavill, an executive producer on Amazon Studios' upcoming Warhammer 40K cinematic universe project, was staying up until 4 AM in the morning conducting "lore audits" on recently completed scripts. All of these sites cite a report from CNews, a low-budget Hollywood gossip blog that shares regurgitated AI-generated content from Facebook and X. The report has no byline and isn't written like a typical news article - instead, it shares an impassioned narrative about Cavill's supposed desire to maintain a high level of authenticity while working on the scripts for "Season 1" of a Warhammer 40K TV show that has yet to be confirmed (Amazon Studios has committed to a Warhammer 40K project, but has not stated whether it will be a movie or a television series.) To be blunt, the actual report reads very much like an AI-generated meme post found on Facebook, an actual example of fake news that has unfortunately wrecked much of social media (and the internet as a whole) in recent years.

We'll note that this CNews site is a separate CNews from the French far-right news source owned by French billionaire Vincent Bolloré. Perhaps that's why the report found so much traction on the Internet, as low-paying journalists mistook the CNews blog for a more reputable news site.

The reality is that we don't know Cavill's current level of involvement with the Warhammer 40K project, which is still in the early development phase. The last tangible update we received about the project was a non-update from Games Workshop stating that the project was still moving forward, but that a firm delivery timeline was out of their hands.

Additionally, Henry Cavill is currently filming the upcoming Highlander reboot in London, so his schedule appears to be full for the foreseeable future. It's likely that he has some degree of involvement with the Warhammer 40K project, but he's certainly not spending his time in a writer's room.

When a Warhammer 40K project does start to ramp out, Amazon Studios will almost certainly share updates on a frequent basis. The studio's God of War and Tomb Raider projects received a host of casting updates released to a wide range of news sources, with Tomb Raider actively filming and God of War's production set to begin next month.
