Batman is headed back under the hood. Your hood specifically. Batman: Arkham Shadow will be arriving later this year, exclusively on the Meta Quest 3. Until then, read up on the new details for the game, along with the trailer above.
Hopefully you tuned into Summer Game Fest today for the reveal of the new Batman: Arkham Shadow trailer—but if not, don’t worry. You can find the new trailer above.
As revealed back on May 1, Batman: Arkham Shadow is a Meta Quest 3 exclusive developed by Camouflaj and Oculus Studios, in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC. Having already teased the game last month, we’re now ready to share additional new details.
Batman: Arkham Shadow is an official new entry in the Batman: Arkham franchise, featuring the same blend of exploration, stealth, and free-flowing combat the series is known for. The only difference? You are Batman. Don the cape and cowl of the World’s Greatest Detective, glide from rooftop to rooftop, and strike fear into Gotham City’s criminal underworld.
The Story
It’s the Fourth of July, and Gotham City is besieged by a new threat: the mysterious Rat King and his cultish devotees. Public officials have been abducted, including Batman associates Commissioner Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent. The Rats have pledged to execute them in one week’s time for “crimes committed against the people of Gotham City.”
As widespread rioting engulfs the city, Batman (voiced by Roger Craig Smith) races to prevent this so-called “Day of Wrath,” but it all goes wrong.
Set between the events of Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Asylum, you’ll experience the origins of such iconic characters as The Scarecrow, Harley Quinn, and more, as Batman grapples with the contradiction at the core of his identity—the use of force in pursuit of peace.
Become the Batman
Batman: Arkham Shadow pushes Meta Quest 3 to its limits, immersing players in a full-fledged, story-driven campaign. Use Batman’s Grapnel Gun to traverse a richly detailed depiction of Gotham City, and then grab hold of your cape to silently glide down behind unsuspecting enemies.
Having gotten the drop on your foes, enter the fray using a built-for-VR evolution of Arkham’s iconic freeform combat. Get up-close-and-personal as you deliver devastating punches, deflect incoming attacks, dodge, and unleash brutal takedowns.
Fans know there’s more to a mainline Arkham game than bone-crunching combat—from stealth to predator encounters to Detective Vision, Camouflaj has faithfully reimagined the entire experience for VR. Perch on a vantage point, or string enemies up from one. Throw a Batarang to keep a combo going or slip out of sight using a Smoke Bomb. Scour crime scenes for clues, solve puzzles, uncover hidden collectibles, and explore iconic locations such as the Monarch Theatre and Bowery from an all-new perspective.
Releasing exclusively on Meta Quest 3 later this year, Batman: Arkham Shadow is designed to be a groundbreaking VR game on every level.
We’ll be revealing more info soon, so keep an eye on Camouflaj’s site and here on the Meta Quest Blog for more details, and wishlist Batman: Arkham Shadow on the Meta Quest Store!
