Yesterday, ASUS Republic of Gamers announced two new laptops: the 2026 ROG Strix G16 and Strix G18. These use the latest hardware, including the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080. Both feature the latest ROG displays, cooling, and tool-less chassis designs that let you upgrade critical components. The flagship ROG Strix SCAR 18 will be unveiled later this year.
The 2026 Strix G16 features a 2.5k 300Hz ROG Nebula Display, allowing users to take advantage of the framerate boosts provided by DLSS and Multi-Frame Generation. The larger Strix G18, meanwhile, has a 2.5K 240Hz ROG Nebula HDR display, featuring Mini LED technology. The panel reaches 1600 nits of peak brightness for HDR. Both screens feature ACR technology to reduce reflections and maintain color accuracy when viewed from off angles.
That's a lot of tech, and you really have to keep it all cool. The laptops utilize Tri-Fan Technology, a vapor-chamber cooling solution, and a sandwiched heatsink design to do so. If you need to replace or upgrade anything, the laptops are easy to open without any tools, providing easy access to the SSD and RAM.
The 2026 ROG Strix SCAR 18 will be the most powerful of the three, and while we don't know any specifics yet it will feature up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and reach a total higher system TDP than it's 2025 predecessor.
