Marvel: Crisis Protocol Alliances — Announcement Breakdown

In Marvel: Crisis Protocol (MCP) Alliances, 1 to 4 players players team up to battle against a super villain and their minions. For the first expansion released, Night of the Goblin, players can play as Spectacular Spider-Man (Peter Parker), Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Ghost Spider (Spider Gwen), and Black Cat. Players will need to work together to battle Norman Osborn, a.k.a. the Green Goblin, and his Goblin Minions, which are a collection of thugs in goblin masks, henchman on gliders, and some slick, 90s-themed robots.
Unlike the standard MCP board, players will play on a small, hex-grid board, removing the need for range rules and movement templates in Alliances.

Spider-friends and Spider-foes
During the game, players will get to level up their characters with additional abilities, presumably to help them in the final boss fight. The combat text, iconography, and dice are are very similar to MCP, so veteran players will be able to pick this up quickly.

The figures themselves are being marketed as snap-fit, "no-glue" assembly, which is very similar to Warhammer Underworlds. Players can still paint their minis if they'd like, but this process makes getting into the game quick and easy.

The miniatures are also fully compatible with the standard Marvel Crisis Protocol game. While it wasn't made clear if the box comes with standard MCP character cards, Atomic Mass Games has always encouraged print-and-play for the game, so new players have access to all of the cards and don't have to chase them down.

Alliances allows players to mix and match to their teams, including heroes and villains. From the announcement video, X-Men and Avengers characters will be coming, including another expansion, Attack of the Sentinels, teased at the end of the video.

Live Demos for the game will be available at GAMA and Adepticon, so definitely check those out if you are able to attend them.
At first impression, this seems like a great entry in Marvel: Crisis Protocol. It combined a mixture of Warhammer Underworlds, Marvel United, and Heroclix into a single game. These are great skirmish games, and the co-operative element really helps bring the team-up fight to the home tabletop to enjoyed by friends and family. Even just with the preliminary information, this would be a wonderful adaption and game mode for Star Wars: Shatterpoint. From Atomic Mass Game's Press Release, it seems it is being shifted and refocused, hopefully to really emphasize the narrative elements of the game and offer a co-operative option for players.
