You might be killing cacodemons in 4K on an Xbox Series X, but there's been a long line of slayers before you. Two of those slayers got together to chat, our friend Luke Lohr of the Xbox Expansion Pass, and Xaser Acheron, lead designer on the most recent officially released Classic Doom campaign Legacy of Rust. They had a fantastic conversation, with some amazing tidbits about the franchise. Check out that info below!

Xaser Acheron was the lead designer on the most recent officially released Classic Doom campaign Legacy of Rust. He has worked on Doom projects since the early 2000's. Xaser discusses crafting this new campaign for the 2024 release of Doom 1+2 collection, creating new weapons and enemies as part of official canon, and how he went about working with id. Xaser calls this the "Golden Age of Doom."

Legacy of Rust style campaign using the Cosmic Realm from Doom: The Dark Ages.

Q: Can you see yourself creating a Doom campaign that's not Legacy of Rust but Legacy "Cosmic" where you almost reverse-engineer what that realm would to make it "Classic Doom"?

A: "I would love that!"
Xaser goes on to describe how ripe for storytelling the Lovecraftian world is for creating levels.

Q: Do you think you could create some of the weapons from Doom The Dark Ages in the classic Doom style?

A: I would love to do that... Skull crusher is insane to me. My favorite though: I want to have the shield, man!
