If you’re like me and diving into Borderlands 4 for the first time, you want the best experience. Luckily, Razer has you covered. Teaming up with Gearbox, the gear maker has some epic level augmentation to bring to your experience through their Sensa HD haptics and Chroma RGB lighting. Below are just a few examples I have for the gear I’m using – feel free to tell us what you’re using in the comments!

Borderlands 4 review — Just freakin’ fun
Borderlands is back. Again. AGAIN!

Razer Kraken Kitty V3 Pro

While you might not think a kitty-cat themed headset can give you the oomph you need for Borderlands 4, it packs a punch. The 40mm TriForce Titanium drivers sound great, adding a lot of immersion to the gameplay. Those drivers are perfect fit for games like this – all about sound cues without being competitive. That said, the HyperClear Super Wideband makes it so your three co-op partners in crime can hear you clearly in the midst of a big boss fight.

The Chroma RGB profile may be the coolest part. Featuring over one hundred and seventy effects, alongside unique vault hunter and element specific reactions, the cat ears and ear cups will light up based on what’s happening on the screen. If you’re a streamer, or just like cool lighting, this is amazing. There is even reactive lighting for shooting and taking damage. I’ve tested the feature a good bit, and while I think Razer and Gearbox could up the ante a bit (especially in gunfights, I don’t remember seeing red at all when getting hit or downed, which would add to the experience), there’s no questioning how awesome Chroma’s integration is.

In my 85/100 review I wrote: “The Razer Kraken Kitty V3 Pro wireless headset is a stylish option that combines Kraken’s power with Kitty’s aesthetic, and to great effect. It sounds great, it looks awesome, and it works on most devices. What matters is on the inside… but Razer has that and the outside covered.”

Razer Wolverine V3 Pro controller

If you think the kitty above has claws, wait until you get a load of this guy. Razer’s Wolverine V3 Pro controller is outstanding, one of the best controllers I’ve ever used. As a bit of a Borderlands novice, the wide range of in-game abilities and gear usage could be intimidating. With the Wolverine V3 Pro, however, a lot of that is mitigated.

The precision offered by the Hall Effect thumbsticks is incredible. Aim assist is nice, but when you can feel the accuracy under your thumbs, it’s on a different level. Pairing that with the mecha-tactile buttons means I know when I’m pressing something, which ensures I don’t fat-finger a command that might cost me later in a fight.

Beyond those benefits are the instant triggers, back buttons, and M-buttons. The triggers make a lot of sense for a game that operates at the frenetic pace of Borderlands 4. Any time I can get my shots off faster than the opposing computer player, it’s a win. The back buttons are almost necessary in Borderlands 4, allowing you to control the speed of your movement to hit some gnarly shots – like my constant in-air bounce firing. While I’ve not always used them, M-buttons are a game changer; given how useful the movement functions are on back buttons, being able to map D-pad presses to M-buttons allows you to not miss a health stim in the heat of battle.

Sensa HD haptics are pretty great here, even if a little subdued. Just sticking heavy duty motors in a controller doesn’t make it good, and in these games it can be distracting. The haptic feedback from the Wolverine V3 Pro is intuitive and discreet, allowing you to enjoy the vibration cues without the controller rattling out of your hands.

My 90/100 review stated: Baby got claws. The Razer Wolverine V3 Pro is an outstanding controller that matches every need for the competitive-minded gamer. While the handles are a bit stubby, every other facet is top notch. Featuring incredibly accurate hall effect thumbsticks, responsive triggers, phenomenal back buttons and bonus M-buttons, you’ll be hard pressed to find another controller offering the same amount of versatility as the V3 Pro.”

Razer Freyja haptic gaming cushion

Nothing compares to getting your butt zapped as you slip and slide around Kairos, fighting off rippers with God knows what kind of weaponry. Borderlands 4 is known for getting wacky, and Razer has done the same with their Freyja haptic gaming cushion. It’s kind of a match made in heaven.

I spent quite a bit of time testing the Freyja with all sorts of different games, and I was surprised by it actually working the way Razer advertised. Not only is it a hefty, largely comfortable cushion, but it’s simple to use. Put it on your gaming chair, snap the straps into place, plug in the power block and the USB dongle, and voilà! It’s also instantly recognized in Razer Synapse, which makes life easy as you don’t have to manually configure any of the settings.

As soon as I started Borderlands 4, I knew it was working. I could feel every shot rumbling at my back. If I hit a slide, I felt it in my butt. If I jumped and mantled, that traveled up my back. Similarly to the Chroma functionality, the Sensa HD compatibility brings over one hundred and seventy effects, mimicking and based upon the previously mentioned reactions. It’s really dope, you even get a level-up haptic that runs up your back! I’ll never forget to spend skill points again.

Here’s what I summarized for the 75/100 review for the Freyja: “I wouldn’t have thought a gaming cushion could be high-tech, but leave it to Razer to figure out how. The Freyja is a more than competent device, enhancing immersion at its best but missing the mark at its worst. Given the pricing, this is probably more for the enthusiast, but as a product, this haptic gaming cushion is a comfortable seat that can boost your immersion.”
