Every year, as we get closer to the release of the new Madden, EA showcases the top players at each position and their overall rankings. Sometimes these are spot on, while others are a shock to everyone seeing it for the first time.
Now that all of the top players are revealed, I wanted to go through some of the spot-on and shockers I saw this year.
Spot On
Fred Warner – 97 – MLB
In my opinion, the best linebacker currently in the game, I could have been convinced he would be a 98 or 99 as well. He’s all over the field and a true leader for the 49ers. The defense is clearly better with him on the field, his vision is the best in the NFL at the position. I don’t think much more needs to be said, if you have a problem here, I suggest you watch the tape.
Shocker
CJ Stroud / Jordan Love – 81 – QB
14th and 15th at Quarterback seems way too low for two young QBs who seemingly put it all together by the end of the season for an impressive playoff game and showed flashes of everything I wanted to see. 14th and 15th? Don’t get me wrong. There are some great QB’s in the NFL right now. But I just don’t see some of these QB’s that are ranked higher being better overall. The most shocking is players like Dak Prescott and Tua Tagovailoa being so much higher at 90 and 88 respectively. While I’m a Dolphins fan, having a QB with Playoff wins under their belt or a Rookie of the Year award would make me question why Stroud and Love are sitting at 81 overall. I have a feeling that if both these QB’s start where they left off, those rankings will boost up closer to the 88-89 range before too long.
Spot On
Ja’Marr Chase / Joe Burrow – 93 – WR / QB
Both have injury history, but their impact on the field is so clear that 93 makes sense to me. These two together are monsters putting up big numbers when they’re both healthy. If he wasn’t hurt last year, I assume Burrow would be closer to 95-96, but 93 makes sense given production last year while still looking at the potential. Meanwhile, Chase being 93 is one below DeVante Adams and two below Amon-ra St. Brown, which makes sense given the past season. Both of these players are primed for a big season if they stay healthy, and it shows in their overall.
Shocker
Derrick Henry – 94 – HB
Last year, Henry rushed for around 1,100 yards, which was close to 400 less than the year before. Regardless of the system he’s in now, he’s 30 and has been run over and over since high school. 90, 92 maybe, I wouldn’t question. However, giving him a 94 in Madden NFL 25 after being a 94 at the beginning of Madden NFL 24 had me scratching my head. He’s still a top 10 back in the league, but maybe we just need to move number down a couple for it to make the most sense in my brain.
Spot On
Tyreek Hill – 99 – WR
Sorry, not sorry, while I’m a Dolphins fan, I think we can agree this makes sense. With 1,700 yards his last two seasons, being voted the #1 player in the league by his peers, and getting a bonus to his contract, Hill makes sense to be a 99 overall joining Mahomes, CMC, Travis Kelce, and Trent Williams. 99 speed is one thing, but with a 92 in jumping and a 98 in agility; the Cheetah is going to be a blast at the beginning of the year for Madden NFL 25.
These are my opinions on some of the top guys in Madden NFL 25 and where they fall on the chart, it’s not meant to say any of these men aren’t good at their jobs, they’re top 10 players in the entire NFL. But this is a ratings-based game, and sometimes comparison makes it harder to say where someone should fall!
