XCOM 2: War of the Chosen announced – coming this summer

During today’s PC Intel E3 press conference, Designer of XCOM Jake Solomon took the stage to announce XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, the largest expansion to come to the turn-based strategy game yet, due out August 29.

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen will feature the Chosen—a new enemy race designed to be the ultimate adversaries in the XCOM universe. The Chosen will have three distinct enemy classes: the Assassin, which favors stealthy close quarter-based combat; the Hunter, a long-ranged sniper class; and the Warlock, who was aptly described by Solomon as being “you know, a Warlock.”

War of the Chosen will also come with new playable soldier classes, including the Reaper and the Templar.

Another enemy faction coming with this expansion is the Lost—a zombie-like race of undead vestiges from the original alien invasion 20 years prior to the events of XCOM 2. The Lost are a mindless force that will cause chaotic disruption in any battle scenario, especially within combats between XCOM forces and another faction; swearing no allegiances (as zombies rarely do) the Lost are prone to attacking both the player’s characters and enemy infantry, creating battles of “beautiful chaos.”

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen promises to be the largest expansion ever to come to XCOM—twice as large as any previous expansion, with new environments, new stories, and as mentioned, new characters. The expansion launches for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on August 29.

Joe's favorite games are Zelda: Majora's Mask, Dishonored, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Hearthstone. His favorite game is not The Witcher 3 because he hasn't played it yet.
