The Last of Us movie is in “development hell” according to Naughty Dog

Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has given an update on the film adaptation of The Last of Us, but it doesn’t seem to have experienced much in the way of progress in quite some time.

In an interview with IGN, Druckmann revealed that there hadn’t work on The Last of Us movie in well over a year, saying that the project was in a sort of “development hell.”

I know I said in an interview a while back we had a table read, got the script to a good place and it kind of entered development hell like these things tend to do,” Druckmann said. “There hasn’t been any work done on it in over a year and a half.”

Druckmann is set to be acting as writer for the film, and rumors of Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams being in talks to play Ellie were heavily circulating back in 2014 when the project was announced.

In the meantime, Naughty Dog is releasing Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End on May 10th, and may then work on a sequel to The Last of Us.
