Sonic gets a facelift – Sega announces new look, new game, and a new show for its gaming icon

Good news for hedgehog fans, SEGA is launching a new, multiplatform branch to their Sonic universe, called Sonic Boom. Along with new games for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems, SEGA’s also debuting a CG animated series that will launch later this season on Cartoon Network.

SEGA also unveiled a new look for the Sonic Cast. As you can see in the pictures and below trailer, the characters have a slightly less cartoony look than from previous games, with longer limbs and smaller torsos. Knuckles’ newly bulked up body has undergone the most noticeable revamp.

Sonic Boom will be the third exclusive title to be released as per a deal with Nintendo, which is being developed by the California based team, Big Red Button Entertainment (Wii U) and Sanzaru Games (3DS). With the CG cartoon consisting of 52 x 11 minute episodes and a new toy line designed by TOMY, this is one of Sega’s largest global campaigns in recent years.

We want to ensure that the Sonic brand continues to evolve and appeal to new generations of Sonic fans and this different look introduces a fresh approach that will be at once both familiar and new to the consumers. We are committed to supporting this initiative to provide great entertainment to fans for all aspects of their lives.
