Rampage film adaptation starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson receives its first trailer

Yes, this is a real thing. New Line Cinema is releasing Rampage, based on the arcade game by the same name, directed by Brad Peyton, director of the film San Andreas.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be playing Primatologist Davis Okoye, who has a bond with George, a large albino silverback gorilla. After a genetic experiment goes wrong, George grows to an enormous size and goes on rampage along with a large wolf that will most likely be named Ralph like in the video game. At the end of the trailer, Lizzie, the Godzilla-like giant lizard is teased.

Surprisingly, we haven’t received a new Rampage game since Rampage: Total Destruction on the Wii in November of 2006. With over a decade since its last release, the idea to make a film based on the franchise is questionable at best, but it sure does look like a fun popcorn flick. There are currently no plans to make a video game tie in of the film.

Rampage will be released in theaters on April 20th, 2018.
