Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon trailer pokes holes in Kanto Region theory

Ultra Wormholes once again take center stage in the newest trailer for Pokémon Ultra Sun & Pokémon Ultra Moon, showing characters riding Solgaleo and Lunala through tears in time and space to battle new Ultra Beasts, and the fan-favorite legendary Pokémon, Mewtwo. The trailer also promises that players will encounter new Z moves, new Pokémon forms and more as players battle Necrozma. We also get a brief look at Megalopolis, a new location which serves as the base for the Ultra Recon Squad, which can only be accessed by traveling through an Ultra Wormhole.

Promotional images, released earlier this month in Japan, revealed images of Team Rocket members, spurring a flood of theories that Ultra Wormholes could possibly lead back to the Kanto Region, the setting of the original Red, Blue, and Yellow games. The promise of Ultra Worm Holes leading to different locations, combined with the announcement of Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You, a retelling of the origin story of Ash and Pikachu which features Pokémon from all seven generations, sparked a flurry of fan theories that players may be able to use Ultra Worm Holes travel between all Pokémon regions.

The recent trailer, which shows an encounter with Mewtwo on a prismatic field, instead of a setting more akin to Cerulean Cave, the location of the Mewtwo encounter in the Kanto games, seems to poke a few holes in that theory. Thus far, Mewtwo is the only new legendary Pokémon encounter revealed for Pokémon Ultra Sun & Pokémon Ultra Moon.

Pokémon Ultra Sun & Pokémon Ultra Moon will be available for the Nintendo 3DS family of devices on November 17th.
