Nintendo’s first mobile games will all be free-to-play

Nintendo’s first set of mobile games will be free-to-play, developer DeNA has confirmed.

The Wall Street Journal reports that DeNA Chief Executive Isao Moriyasu revealed this at a recent earnings briefing, implying that Nintendo will be looking to microtransactions for its mobile revenue.

The first of Nintendo’s mobile offerings, Miitomo, was revealed last month and is basically a Mii-based social media platform. Miitomo is the first of five mobile games Nintendo is looking to launch by 2017.

All of this is part of a partnership between Nintendo and DeNA to bring the former company’s properties to the mobile market, a partnership that DeNA hopes will bring in over $2.5 million monthly.
