There’s a certain type of cross-promotion that I’m not a huge fan of – for instance, games like Halo 4 offering redeemable in-game points for buying junk food, like bags of Doritos chips and Mountain Dew soda. On the other hand, there’s creative and classy cross-promotion that happens once in a while too, like Nintendo celebrating the release of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D  by organizing fun activities at the gorilla habitat in the LA Zoo this weekend.

Starting on Friday, May 24th and ending on Monday the 27th, Nintendo will be hosting fun and educational activities involving the Los Angeles Zoo’s family of gorillas, as well as setting up kiosks throughout the zoo where visitors can play the game on 3DS. This event will also bring awareness to the fact that gorillas are an endangered species.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D  releases this Friday and our review says you might just want to give it a whirl.

Sean's symbiotic relationship with video games led to writing about them for various gaming websites, and he is currently involved in sales strategy and analytics at one of the largest video game publishers in the world. Sean's mission is simple: Turn 100% of the human population into gamers, willingly or otherwise.
