New 3DS will be Region-Locked

In Nintendo news, it appears that the upcoming new model for the 3DS (simply called “New 3DS”) is going to be region-locked.

News of this comes from IGN who reports that Nintendo confirmed that “the situation will be exactly the same as for the current family of Nintendo 3DS systems.” This means that the New 3DS will be restricted to games manufactured and available in certain territories, meaning importing the system requires you to import every game you buy as well.

However, it doesn’t appear that the region-locking of the system is the only thing bothering people about the handheld. For more on that, check out our thoughts on Nintendo’s continued struggle with naming its hardware.

The New 3DS was revealed last week, and features a second thumb stick and color-coded buttons.
