Naughty Dog says Last of Us sequel is on a list of potential projects for the studio

While a sequel to The Last of Us still hasn’t been formally announced, Naughty Dog is apparently considering ways to continue the series both with and without protagonists Joel and Ellie.

Speaking with Official PlayStation Magazine (via GamesRadar+), Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann explained that a Last of Us sequel was on a list of potential projects that the studio may be working on, but that it was weighing options about what direction to take the series.

The answer is – and this is totally honest, and I’ve said this in the past – that when Bruce (Straley) and I moved over to Uncharted 4, we were brainstorming ideas for The Last Of Us 2 with new characters; ideas for TLOU 2 with Joel and Ellie; ideas for a sci-fi game; ideas for a fantasy game, and building prototypes for each one of those ideas. And just as we were getting close to settling or narrowing that list down, we were asked to work on Uncharted 4.” Gosh it’s like being stuck between a really good rock and an excellent hard place, isn’t it?”

This is the latest in a long line of hints that a sequel to The Last of Us is coming, with members of Naughty Dog accidentally referencing a sequel on a livestream and actor Nolan North stating that the sequel was in-development at a panel being recent examples.

For now, Naughty Dog is currently working on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which is coming to PlayStation 4 on March 18th. For more on that, check out our preview from this year’s E3.
