Mortal Kombat for Vita Releases Today, Touchscreen Fatalities Ensue

When Mortal Kombat  released on consoles last year, it marked the triumphant return of a classic series that old fans and first-timers alike could enjoy. Today, the PS Vita version releases and is ready to give portable gamers – suddenly I’m looking forward to my commutes to work this month – a reason to polish off their touchscreens.

“Mortal Kombat for PlayStation Vita allows us to bring the best possible fighting experience to our loyal fans – anytime, anywhere,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. “The game runs at a seamless 60 frames per second, and provides unique gameplay modes and features that take advantage of PlayStation Vita’s exciting new hardware capabilities. Mortal Kombat for PlayStation Vita is the ultimate portable fighting game and provides hours of fun for mobile gamers.”

Content exclusive to the Vita version include 150 new Challenge Tower missions, many of which take advantage of the touchscreen and gyro sensor. There’s also local and online multiplayer options which, hopefully, provide a smoother online experience than the console versions did initially upon release.

Oddly enough, Mortal Kombat  doesn’t appear to be for sale digitally through PSN, at least for now. So those of you wanting to keep your library completely digital might have to wait a bit, or sacrifice your principles and trek over to a local GameStop.
