Monday Tabletop Kickstarter Update – Bees, Fighters and Science!

Hello! Welcome to this week’s belated Tabletop Kickstarter Update! With all of the excitement at E3 and the lesser known Origins, this is coming to you a little late. You can still get in on these Kickstarters though. For info on what is going on here, check out this introduction. A few solid choices to peruse this week.

Remember that I am in no way endorsing these games, I have not played them, I have not talked to the publishers. Back at your own risk.

Progress: Evolution Of Technology
Apparent Weight: Medium
Genre: Technology Tree Smorgasbord, Tableau Building

First on the list because I backed this project, and you should consider doing the same. If you like building up technology trees in larger complex games, Progress is the game for you. There is plenty of art and reviews to give you a good feeling for what the game is and where it is going.

Rive
Apparent Weight: Medium-Heavy
Genre: Deck Building, Hex Combat, Ameritrash

What is not to love? Rive offers up a mix of Deck Building, hex based combat, piles of cardboard and asymmetrical player powers. I am most interested in this idea of incorporating Deck Building in to a combat game. I am not 100% sold on the art, but all of the cardboard tokens certainly look enticing.

BattleCON: War Remastered
Apparent Weight: Medium
Genre: Two player Card Driven combat

This is not BattleCON’s first dance on the Kickstarter stage. One of the first acclaimed releases on Kickstarter, BattleCON War and its follow up BattleCON Devastation have received widespread acclaim. This game system pits two fighters in a Street-Fighter-esque duel that uses a paired combat system. Each player has the same base moves that are paired with fighter specific modifiers, so you can have a Righteous Strike or Feral Burst. If you are looking for an alternative to LCGs or CCGs this is worth checking out.

Waggle Dance
Apparent Weight: Medium
Genre: Worker Placement, resource management, Dice Bees, Cube Pollen

From the game play video there looks like quite a bit going on with this amusingly titled game. Players place their dice bees onto different working locations with the goal of building the best hive and getting the most honey. For those strategy gamers out there, don’t let this one fly by.

No rants or rambles this week! Come back on Friday as I talk about the love hate relationship between Kickstarter and Shipping.

If you have KS topics that interest you, let me know @Scooter_TTTD

From Trading in the Mediterranean to FPS, I love games. While I grew up in a house without consoles, PC gaming and board gaming were a large part of my formative years, and continue to influence my life. In this golden age of board gaming, I have jumped in headfirst in to anything table top. As a ludilogical student, I love thinking about how games work, their mechanics, their elegance and most importantly, enjoying how fun they are.

Favorite Board Game (at the moment): Twilight Struggle
Favorite PC Game (base solely on play time): Tie between WoW and DII
