I am so pumped right now, you guys–MechWarrior is back! I absolutely adore the MechWarrior franchise. I loved the series so much I even read the side-story novels, learning all about the wars between the Inner Sphere and the Clans. The books were sort of silly, but the games set the gold standard for combat sims– a genre that has been seeing a bit of a resurgence lately–but we haven’t seen a new MechWarrior game in over 10 years. All that’s about to change.
Infinite Game Publishing (IGP) and Piranha Games announced today that after a decade of fan anticipation for a new MechWarrior game, MechWarrior Online has entered Open Beta. Mech combat has finally returned to millions of both veteran and new MechWarrior players at www.mwomercs.com. The highly anticipated and hotly previewed MechWarrior Online puts players in command of the most powerful war machine to ever walk the battlefield, the mighty BattleMech™.
MechWarrior Online will be launched as a free-to-play action game, but right now in open beta–you can go download the client right now! I can’t tell you how true to the established cannon the game is, but you’d better believe I’ll be getting in on the Steiner vs. Davion action, and you’ll be hearing my thoughts right here.
