GamersGate today announced the upcoming beta-testing and release of their FreeGames, a platform for allowing users to play numerous Mac and PC titles free of charge in exchange for watching a short advertisement. With over 3000 titles in the GamersGate library as is, FreeGames is expected to feature a “large portion” of them. Straight from the release:
“The new service offers the best of both worlds for both gamers and publishers,” said Theodore Bergquist, CEO at GamersGate. “Gamers can play games for free, catch up on franchises or try a game out before they buy. Publishers will receive ad revenue while expanding their audience. We’ve always been at the forefront of the digital delivery business and I’m confident that our new service will help reshape the industry.”
Just which of the GamersGate titles will make the cut for FreeGames remains to be seen, but the service seems primed to put some games in the hands of the more price-conscious gamers out there.
