Civilization V Goes Free-to-Play for a Weekend

If the 4X action of Warlock: Master of the Arcane wasn’t enough for you, 2K and Firaxis Games have announced a free weekend for their popular title of the same genre, Sid Meier’s Civilization V. The free weekend, which will run from today until Sunday at 1p.m. Pacific time, is meant to celebrate the upcoming release of the Civilization V Gods & Kings expansion pack. The expansion will be available to pre-order later this month.

Sid Meier’s Civilization V: Gods & Kings can be pre-ordered starting at 1:00 p.m. PDT on Monday, May 28, 2012 and players who choose to take advantage of the free-to-play weekend can continue their quest for world domination and keep their progress intact by purchasing Civ V before Monday, May 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. PDT.

In addition to the weekend of free play, the entire Civ 5 franchise will be 75% off on Steam this weekend. The Gods & Kings expansion pack is set to be released on June 19th.

Breanna has been gaming since infancy, if gnawing on an unattended controller counts as playing a game. One of the younger members of the Gaming Trend family, she dabbled in PC games as a kid but wasn't fully consumed by the hobby until the sixth generation of consoles. Now an avid PC and console gamer, she looks forward to the day when she can scape together enough cash to join the next gen club.

In the last week of middle school, a math teacher taught her how to program a calculator; she was pretty much hooked then and there. Currently working towards a degree in Computer Science and Applied Math, Breanna hope to someday make games instead of just writing about them. Other hobbies include playing guitar, binge-watching Netflix, and cooking delicious food.
