We are pretty excited to get eyes on Agents of Mayhem next week, but today we get to see one of the new characters for the game — an agent of MAYHEM named Lazarus. Half woman, half machine, she looks like the resident ass-whipping agent with a soft spot for us squishy entirely-human-humans. Agents of Mayhem takes place in the same world as Volition’s other crazy IP, Saints Row, so it’ll be interesting to see if we find any crossovers, beyond the already-confirmed Johnny Gat. Here’s a nibble about what we know so far:
Fun, funny and full of high-action moments and laugh-out-loud scenarios, in Agents of MAYHEM, you run a no-holds barred operation against the shadowy super-villain organization, LEGION, fighting to take back the world after the horrors of Devil’s Night.
Explore the futuristic city of Seoul with a team of three interchangeable agents, each with their own distinct look, sense of humour, weapons, and skillset, with only one aim: to destroy LEGION, its operatives and their vile plans to take over the world.
Now let’s get a good look at Lazarus and her motivations:
An eager soldier, Fatima Daoud’s ambition and ability got her noticed by MAYHEM who recruited her as a field agent. Under the codename Dynamo, she worked for the agency as an advanced scout for new cities to determine the extent of LEGION activity. However, LEGION found Dynamo and led her into a trapped laboratory which was buried in a vault deep underground. An explosion left Dynamo with serious injuries, almost killing her. While she began to bleed out, Ariadne, unbeknownst to Dynamo, sauntered in and flipped a coin. The result was Ariadne injecting Dynamo with experimental nanites. The nanites rebuilt Dynamo into a merging of woman and machine, the next step along the evolutionary ladder. She was presumed dead by MAYHEM, though upon returning to the ARK Persephone renamed her Lazarus and she rejoined the other agents in the field.
Lazarus is on a constant quest to prove that she’s the top rung of the evolutionary ladder. As an agent of MAYHEM, she encounters an endless stream of competitors ready to challenge her for that distinction. While she’s evolved beyond her own humanity, she still has a great love and respect for humankind as a whole. MAYHEM allows her to watch over those quirky human beings whose flaws and peculiarities continue to fascinate her to this day.
Agents of Mayhem is a single-player open-world third-person (that’s a lot of hyphens!) beat em up coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on August 15th in the US and August 18th in Europe.
