Amazon reveals Amazon Fire TV, thousands of games coming to service by end of next month

In an announcement we have long been waiting for, Amazon today revealed their Amazon Fire TV machine which is on par to compete with Apple’s Apple TV and the Roku.

The Amazon Fire TV will stream video and is available now for the price of $99.99. Of course, this machine will also play some nice little video games including a title called “Sev Zero,” which is free with the purchase of an Amazon Fire TV controller ($39.99) or $6.99 without it. Purchase of the controller also doubles the amount of games playable and allows you access to titles such as Minecraft – Pocket Edition and NBA 2K14.

It also includes 1,000 free Amazon Coins, equivalent to $10. Prices of the games will start at $0.99, very similar to iOS games.

Some of the developers and publishers that will be working on games for the Amazon Fire TV include 2K Games, Disney, Double Fine Productions, Electronic Arts, Sega, Telltale Games and Ubisoft. According to Amazon, “over thousands” of games by next month. You can view a video highlighting some of those games above.

To top this news off, Amazon Game Studios has acquired two big name designers in Kim Swift (Portal 2) and Clint Hocking (Far Cry 2).

Amazon Fire TV will also be running multiple streaming services such as Hulu, WWE Network, and Netflix, similar to what you find on your home consoles now.

The Amazon Fire TV is available now for $99.99.
