Unchained Blades Shows JRPG Pride

Any news about JRPGs on the handhelds – 3DS and PSP/Vita – is fantastic news, right? Seeing as how there’s a lack of them in the pipeline, I was happy to hear that XSEED is bringing Unchained Blades  to the U.S. this year.

Directed by Toshio Akashi of Lunar fame, with the game’s story crafted by Grandia veteran Takashi Hino, Unchained Blades  promises over 60 hours of dungeon-crawling, town-mingling gameplay. Featuring a unique “Unchain” system in battle, players can convince the monsters they are throwing down with to join their ranks. Each party member can capture up to four “unchained” monsters, who become allies during the beat of battle.

“We at XSEED Games are delighted with the opportunity to bring a title like Unchained Blades to North American gamers,” said Ken Berry, Director of Publishing at XSEED Games. “Unchained Blades represents a collaboration between some of Japan’s most high-profile developers and artists, offering a unique blend of classic RPG gameplay paired with an eclectic mix of art styles.”

Read the press release below for more information, and pay attention to Unchained Blades  as more information is revealed throughout the year.

Sean started playing video games in infancy. He was not given a choice as much as a directive from his parents to be the best gamer on Earth. Sean was subjected to 10-12 hours of rigorous daily gaming throughout his youth, mastering the most complex video games and dominating online competitions. Sean's symbiotic relationship with video games led to writing about them for various gaming websites, and he is currently involved in sales strategy and analytics at one of the largest video game publishers in the world. Sean's mission is simple: Turn 100% of the human population into gamers, willingly or otherwise.
