Stardew Valley multiplayer coming to Switch

Stardew Valley is getting a new multiplayer feature — and it’s coming to Nintendo Switch first.

During an indie-games for Switch showcase, Nintendo’s Damon Baker announced that the Switch version of last year’s hit indie title will be the first to support the “new multiplayer feature,” and that more details will be revealed later this year.

Stardew Valley is a single-player 2D harvesting sim/RPG wherein players tend to their farm, harvest crops, cultivate relationships with in-game characters, and generally muck about while living the country life. It was famously developed by one person, Eric Barone, and met critical acclaim last year. In its current state, the game is solely a single-player experience, so it’s unclear what form a multiplayer mode/feature would take.

Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase

Stardew Valley is slated for launch on Nintendo Switch this summer. Nintendo made an abundance of announcements for the Switch’s 2017 library, including the addition of Yooka-Laylee, Overcooked, Escapists 2, and a bunch of new exclusives.

Joe's favorite games are Zelda: Majora's Mask, Dishonored, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Hearthstone. His favorite game is not The Witcher 3 because he hasn't played it yet.
