Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice gets new release date, coming to 3DS in September

After being delayed back in September, Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice finally has a new release date.

Sega announced at its SXSW panel that Sonic’s latest will be available on 3DS on September 27th, bringing the game’s delay to nearly a full calendar year after its original projected date.

After announcing Fire & Ice last year, Sega revealed that it would only be bringing a Sonic Boom game to 3DS at this time rather than bringing another game to Wii U as it did in 2014. Fire & Ice is being developed by Sanzaru Games, who developed Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal instead of working on another game in the Sly Cooper series.

Despite Shattered Crystal’s relative success compared to its Wii U counterpart Rise of Lyric, both games were collectively an all-time low for the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
