Level-5 and SCRAP announced today that it will kick off an ARG to celebrate the upcoming release of Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy, Layton’s Mystery Journey: Real World Puzzle Solving will take place in 10 different countries over the course of three months.
Between June 20 and September 21, Real World Puzzle Solving will begin in Japan and take place in ten countries. A slew of 50 puzzles showing up in cities like New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Sydney, Seoul, and Tokyo. The first puzzle was delivered earlier today by international star Pikotaro, who released a modified version of his viral hit “PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen)”.
Players who want to participate in the ARG can visit the Layton World website to track their progress and solve puzzles. In addition, the “Translayton” system will translate devices in real-time, which will help people share information and solve puzzles regardless of language.
The first major puzzle announcements are slated for June 23 to 30 in Shibuya, where a larger-than-life character holding a silk hat will appear somewhere in the city. On June 30 to July 2, a puzzle panel will appear in a popular spot where tourists take pictures of the Golden Gate in San Francisco. Subsequent puzzle locations will be announced at a later date.
Layton’s Mystery Journey: Real World Puzzle Solving will be active until September 21. Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy will be released on July 20 for smartphones and fall 2017 for Nintendo 3DS.
