This new Tomb Raider reboot is a curious thing. The intensity of the storytelling that Crystal Dynamics has been emphasizing in every preview looks astounding, and I like the idea of reinventing comic book action hero Lara Croft into someone more recognizably human.
In principle, anyway. In practice…I don’t know, but the grinding, toothsome misery in this trailer is weirding me out. See what you think after the jump.
Is this shaping up to be a high water mark for establishing empathy between players and their protagonist, or the digital equivalent of Last House on the Left? I honestly can’t tell, but with the better part of nine months before its release, I’ll sure be interested to see anything more the Square Enix booth can reveal!
