Metroid II Comes to 3DS Virtual Console

There are only two games in the Metroid franchise I have never played: 1991’s Metroid II, and last year’s Metroid: Other M.  Tomorrow, that number will drop to one (and decrease no further for the rest of my natural born life) as Nintendo brings Samus’ original portable adventure to their latest portable device.

On Nov. 24, Nintendo will release the original 2D version of Metroid II: Return of Samus. This Game Boy classic has intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran battling Space Pirates as she seeks to destroy Metroids on SR388. The game lays the foundation for the smash hit Super Metroid.

Interestingly, this announcement was buried away in a press release titled “Nintendo Adds Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword to an Impressive Downloadable Lineup,” offering no other indication that one of their most beloved game series was included in the list.  Sakura Samurai doesn’t even arrive until January, while Metroid II comes out tomorrow.  Weird.

More information on upcoming 3DS downloadable games like Sakura Samurai, Pushmo, Freakyforms, and some little-known game called Kirby’s Adventure can be found by expanding the full press release below.
