New York City, Rockefeller Center,
8:20pm – I realize the New Nintendo 3DS XL is just about to launch, but I didn’t expect to see a line stretching down an entire avenue block! After snapping a quick pic of the scene outside the Nintendo World Store in midtown Manhattan, I asked some gamers at the front of the line, many of whom were playing 3DS’s, how long they’d been waiting. “I’ve been here since 3:00 a.m. The doors open at midnight,” volunteered one gamer while crouched over a glowing screen and bundled up in his lawn chair.
I was unable to hide my shock. It snowed for a large portion of the day today in New York, with temperatures in the teens and wind chills in the single digits. For people to happily wait outside nearly 24 hours in the cold, one can only truly hope that it will all be worth it come midnight.
