Gearbox sued by 3D Realms over Duke Nukem Forever royalties

duke-nukem-foreverWord came down that 3D Reams, the folks who created venerable shooter franchises Wolfentein and Duke Nukem, has filed a suit against Gearbox Software. 3D realms claims to be owed $2 million in unpaid royalties.

3D Realms (officially named Apogee Software) was the original creator of Duke Nukem Forever, but was famously slow in developing the title.  Gearbox eventually purchased the rights to the game and pushed it out the door in 2011, a full fifteen years after work on the project began.  Though savaged by critics, Duke Nukem Forever was expected to be profitable for its publishers.
