Friday Tabletop Kickstarter Update – Zombies and Miniatures, this must be Kickstarter!

Gather Round! Welcome to the week’s Friday Tabletop Kickstarter Update! For newcomers, check out this introduction for more on what to expect here. This week seems a little uninspired, but that does not mean the games are bad!

Remember that I am in no way endorsing these games, I have not played them, I have not talked to the publishers. Back at your own risk.

Braiiiins!
Apparent Weight: Light
Genre: Zombie Card Game

I know, I know… a zombie card game on Kickstarter, big surprise. But wait! Braiiiins! puts you in the shoes of the living dead, not the traditional, lame survivor. Braiiiins supports both team play and cooperative play as you try to feed on as many helpless survivors as possible. Not super original, but someone out there may still like Zombies.

The Resistance: Hostile Intent and Hidden Agenda
Apparent Weight: Medium-Light
Genre: Social Deduction, Hidden Roles, Expansion

If you have not played The Resistance: stop reading this, go find eight friends and play it. Sure it is not for everyone, but The Resistance is certainly becoming a staple in the “classics” of modern boardgaming. Indie Boards and Cards are campaigning for yet another expansion for one of their previously successful games. For those counting, this is the third one in the last three months. This expansion is sure to add some variety.

Infamy: Welcome to The Big Smoke
Apparent Weight: Medium
Genre: Steampunk Scrimmage Miniatures Game

I cannot get a good feeling for the game itself, but the miniatures and art sure do look enthralling. Why yes, I would like to pit a reimagined Hyde against a mechanized Holmes and electric Tesla. Word of warning, this may be another game-less minis campaign, they are advertising a “living rulebook” (i.e. no rule book). I personally would stray away from this, but the plastic does look awesome!

Factions
Apparent Weight: Medium
Genre: Customizable Strategy Wargame, Variable Player Power

I know this post is all about cliche, but this miniatures game without the miniatures looks promising. Players pick factions and duke it out in a hex arena. The game uses an action point allocation mechanism to control the units abilities. If you are looking for an affordable combat game, Factions is worth looking at.

From Trading in the Mediterranean to FPS, I love games. While I grew up in a house without consoles, PC gaming and board gaming were a large part of my formative years, and continue to influence my life. In this golden age of board gaming, I have jumped in headfirst in to anything table top. As a ludilogical student, I love thinking about how games work, their mechanics, their elegance and most importantly, enjoying how fun they are.

Favorite Board Game (at the moment): Twilight Struggle
Favorite PC Game (base solely on play time): Tie between WoW and DII
