Destiny Characters Will Carry Over to Potential Sequels

It looks like Bungie already has some grand plans for potential sequels to Destiny.

Speaking with Digital Trends Bungie’s Roger Wolfson revealed that Bungie plans for characters to carry from Destiny to its potential sequels Mass Effect style.

Bungie has been adamant that it has a ten year plan for Destiny as a franchise, and the character you make on September 9th is meant to stick with you for the next decade.

That being said, Bungie doesn’t want Destiny’s sequels to feel alienating to new players when playing next to players who have been crafting a character for ten years.

“Let’s say Destiny 2 [and] Destiny 3 are out, and we have new players joining the fun,” Wolfson says. “[They] want to play those new games alongside those who have been playing Destiny from the beginning. [We want to ensure] they won’t feel like they’re four years behind. And then, if they want to, they’ll be able to go back and pick up the old content on their same character.”

“So we’ve done a lot of planning for how that’s going to work, to not make people feel like they have years worth of leveling up to do.”

Destiny Characters Will Carry Over to Potential Sequels

Destiny is currently undergoing its beta testing, which started last Thursday on July 17th for PlayStation players. Xbox players will gain access to the beta on the 23rd until the beta goes down for good on the 27th. Bungie confirmed that players who are using both last generation and current generation hardware can migrate their characters between generations during the beta and the when the game is ultimately released. However, players will not be able to play with each other across generations in order to avoid balancing issues.

Bungie recently revealed Destiny’s collector’s editions, the most expensive of which comes with a replica of the Ghost character that is voiced by Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage.

Destiny is slated for release on September 9th on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
