Cat lovers assemble: More details revealed for Mineko’s Night Market

Mineko’s Night Market, an upcoming indie title described as a game about crafting crafts, eating eats, and catting cats, released more details about its gameplay earlier this week via Twitter. The game follows the story of Mineko as she arrives at her new home, a struggling Japanese island overrun by cats. Through a combination of exploration, forming friendships, and doing business, you will discover the secrets of the town, and prepare for the weekly market by gathering resources and completing various jobs and quests. A combination of textures, character designs, and cats, lots of cats, gives this game a unique look which simply oozes charm.

Developer Meowza Games, a small studio based in Vancouver, has provided a whole host of gifs through their Twitter account, though up until this point, they’ve been somewhat light on gameplay details. Previously revealed features include:

• Explore the village and surrounding areas searching for rare resources and meeting new townsfolk
• Craft resources into strange items to sell at your market stall
• Shop for unique gifts and collectibles from dozens of vendors
• Play a variety of mini-games like cat racing, pachinko, and whack-a-tako
• Discover the mysteries of the town!

This year’s Day of the Devs featured a playable demo of Mineko’s Night Market, and Meowza has since tweeted more details about the game itself. New details and game updates include:

• Resources: There are a hefty variety resources, including fish gems, and flowers, and available resources change throughout the seasons
• Crafting: Crafting includes sewing, pottery, woodworking, and more, and each type of crafting features its own, unique minigame
• Friendships: Each character has their own set schedule, dialog, and favorite things, and Mineko can make friends by giving them gifts
• Bartering: You can sell almost anything at the Night Market, but you your friendship levels will determine your ability to negotiate, and thus impact your profit margins
• Collectables: There are many, many collectibles in the world, including Boximals, the latest craze on the island. You can give them to friends, or hoard your goodies to build your own, complete collection
• An evolving market: The Night Market may not look like much when the game begins, but you can help it grow, as the market will thrive or die based on how much you sell, buy, and how well you perform at the market events
• MOAR CATS: Now there are more cats for you to play with than ever before, get ready to rub some kitty bellies
