Activision Blizzard will no longer disclose World of Warcraft subscription numbers

After this month’s financial report, Activision Blizzard will no longer be revealing the subscription numbers for World of Warcraft.

The company explains that it’s made this decision because it believes that “there are other metrics that are better indicators of the overall Blizzard business performance.” This is likely due to the fact that the game’s subscription base has reached a lifetime low in recent months, with the last reported numbers being 5.6 million as of June. World of Warcraft’s subscription numbers reached a peak in October of 2010, where it had over 12 million active subscribers.

While many have credited the game’s age as a reason for the declining subscription base, but some have other concerns regarding the actual content.
