Super Mario All-Stars Review

One of the best features of the Wii is the ability to purchase and play classic games from classic systems.  For some of us, that means revisiting old favorites from our youth.  For others, it introduces them to old games that they might not have ever been able to play because of the availability of the old NES and other systems.

Mario has been the most prolific gaming icon ever since he starred in the original Donkey Kong arcade game.  He has not only starred in titles on every Nintendo console, but has expanded his repertoire to racing, basketball, and soccer.  His games are some of the highest selling console titles for any platform.  Mario is the rock star of the video game world.

So you can purchase the NES versions of the Super Mario Bros. games as well as the Lost Levels for $21 total.  You can pull out your old SNES and original Super Mario All-Stars cartridge if you have them.  What makes this package so compelling to get then?

First of all, you do get the SNES Super Mario All-Stars on the Wii.  For how old it is, it holds up very well graphically.  The sound is there in its 16-bit glory, but hearing it in surround is a different experience than coming from the TV speakers.

Second, you get the Super Mario History Soundtrack CD.  It has ten tracks that include the theme from the first three Super Mario Bros. games, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, New Super Mario Bros., New Super Marion Bros. Wii, and the two Super Mario Galaxy games.  After that there are ten sound effects from the original Super Mario Bros.  If you wanted the coin, power up, pipe travel, or game over sounds to play over and over, here
