I want a good SATA 300+GB hard drive.  I'm starting to hear bad things about Western Digital, but I'm interested in your opinion.  Seagate?  IBM?  WD?  Something else?  Point me in the right direction...

Uh...I don't want to hear bad things about a SATA WD drive, as I just bought one. All I know is my recent 300GB drive works as well as it should and can multitask like mad.

My comapny primarily sells WD. We only get other brands if the customer specifically requests it. We haven't noticed any unusual amount of problems with them. I currently have 7 300GB WD drives in one of my PC's and haven't had any problems yet.

yeah where did you hear bad things about western digital?  I've only heard bad things about Maxtor lately, and my Maxtor HD is starting to make weird noises itself, making it easier to believe the rumors.  I think WD is making some very good hard drives right now.  A buddy of mine just got one.

*Points at post*....yea, thoughts being formed accurately at 2:30am?  Unlikely.  I meant Maxtor = problems, not WD.

Hhehehe.  Ahhh, no thanks Stiffler. slywink

Seriously - I'm just looking for a good deal on a 300 or 320 or thereabouts SATA II hard drive.   My current drive is creeping along with partitions but I'd like to set up something more secure backup-wise. smile

Essentially yes - that is the drive.  Now I'm looking for it on sale or with a rebate or something.  Then I need to get a SATA 2 cable as well.  If I buy it at retail thats about 140 after cable and shipping.
