After GoneGold self-destructed I assumed we would all be relocating here at CG.  I assumed that we would be starting a PIFF thread here along with all the other trading threads.  When setaside (who thought of the PIFF idea) chimed in as part of the original discussion here I assumed it was okay for us to start our own thread and that he wasn't going to be starting one.  Hence the PIFF thread here at CG.

I did not realize that he and many of the former GG mods were setting up their own forums: Brutesquad Forums.  And I certainly didn't realize that he intended to set up a PIFF thread over there.  And that's my dilemma.

PIFF is setaside's baby.  The Gone Gold community is spread pretty thin right now between 4-5 different forums but most either seem to be here or over at Brutesquad.  I think it would be clumsy at best, and quite possibly problematic to have two PIFF forums spread amongst the former GG community.  Since there would inevitably be cross-pollinization between the two, it would be a nightmare to coordinate games offered, karma and feedback.

I would like to propose that we halt our PIFF thread here at CG and direct our PIFFage over to Brutesquad's PIFF thread.  This will allow us to keep accurate lists of games offered and karma, without which this whole idea will fall apart.

I'm open to discussion about this and my word is certainly not final.  But I will likely be stepping down if we continue a PIFF here at CG.

Thanks and I look forward to your input.

If you want my input, it's really up to the users about which forum(s) they want to have this at.  I'm not at all sure what the other forum has planned or how far they are into a final plan.

Bottom line is that the users would have to decide this one, I don't think the administration/mods from any of the forums currently housing former GG members have any power over dictating what forum gets what in these types of cases, even if the originator of the idea is in an administration/mod position at any of the forums.  Much like the choice of which forum or forums a user wants to participate in, this choice is also up to them as they are the primary stakeholders in something like this. This is my opinion though, I have no idea what other opinions are out there.

I agree.  That's why I posted my dilemma and am soliciting feedback.

I also agree.  Before I posted the above, I communicated my dilemma with setaside and he encouraged ConsoleGold to maintain its PIFF forum.  There was no one dictating what forum gets what.  This is purely my concern here.  The hesitation about  continuing it here partly comes from my misunderstanding what his intentions were (whether he was even interested in restarting a PIFF) and partly from logistical problems involved in tracking multiple lists between two sites.

And I'm sure people will frequent and use both PIFF options. Why not?  It allows people to draw from a bigger pool of freebies.   How do we keep track of karma in that case?  How do we ensure that people are not offering the same freebies in two threads and counting karma in both?  If someone claims a dual-listed item in one thread, how will I know it in the other?  If we ban dual-listing of freebies, how do we track/enforce it?  This system is based on trust and communication and I think two PIFF options across two forums with many of the same community members could easily lead to people being taken advantage of.

As I said these are my thoughts.  No one has requested that we close down the PIFF here - I'm just wondering how to make it work and I'm coming up short on brain cells.

the only sure-frire way to do it from both websites is make it a separate database-driven website  smile

Several emails with setaside have transpired and as he wants us to be able to have our own PIFF thread, we will.

I'm not stepping down after all.  Dehydration does strange things to the brain.

Please do not cross-post your lists between the two sites.  As long as people respect that, all shall go well.

And please do check out and participate in Brutesquad's PIFF thread.  Other than the crickets chirping because it's so empty, it'll be a nice game resource as well.   Cool

Pssst......stay tuned.  You'll see an announcement here in the next day or two about mods and such.  That should get the PIFF back up and running...

I'm fine with things either way, but was wondering...

Are we all starting over with zero karma?

Godzilla:  We are going to start everybody over with zero karma.  Unfortunately, there's really no way of accurately transferring karma without having access to the original thread.

I'll be keeping track of the new karma ratings in the CG PIFF thread, and should have the first counts up this weekend.  I plan on giving it a weekly update (provided there is enough trading going on), so it should stay up to date.
