I can't believe this game is so rare-they sold 7 million of them dammit! They must be lying around all over the place!  I see there's actually a sealed copy on Ebay (someone was thinking ahead) going for $123.  Not too shabby.  Greatest Hits to boot.

Is even the greatest hits version worth that much?  Then I need to just finish that game so I can sell it.

EDIT: wow, I just checked on Goozex, and it goes for the max point value they allow, which translates to $50. And at that price, the demand is much higher than the supply.  Who knew?

I'm playing through the original release version right now and the game is still pretty darn good. No chance on me trading or selling it though.

There actually doesnt seem to be much of a difference between a mint collecters and a mint GH.  At least not from what I could see.  However if you had a sealed original then I assume it would be worth a boatload.

I remember trading my non greatest hits copy into gamestop in 97 or 98 i think, and getting back $20 bucks, and a few days later they came out with the greatest hits version for $20, and i thought i got over on Gamestop.  Guess they got the last laugh.

That said, I actually never cared for FF7 that much.  I enjoyed FF8 much more, personally.

I also can't understand why they don't do a re-release of this game, either for the psp or something like that.  With demand still apparently high, square enix or whoever could make alot more money on this game.  They seem to be re-releasing other final fantasy games, so I don't know what they're waiting for with this.  Its debut was over 10 years ago.

Really?  I loved FF7, beat it with like 70+ hours of play, lol.  I didn't care much for any of the ones after it, nor the online one for the pc.

I'm sure it will happen but I think it's a question of through what venue.  Do they do a full-bore remake for a current-gen console?  Do they do a more minor remake or "enhanced" port for the PSP?  Do they just re-release it as-is on PSN?

Hell, half the locales are already designed for PSP.   Just port the damn thing over already!!

Won't happen on the PSP, unfortunately. Square has reiterated this more than once. They have also stated that they have no plans on doing a complete update. I'm guessing a PSN re-release, if anything.

Tragic....

I think they'll re-release the original version for $50.

Then they'll remake it for the DS or PSP for $40.

Then they'll later remake it for the PS3 for $60.

Cha-ching!

Eh, I can't say I necessarily believe them.  If anything they were probably waiting until Crisis Core's release to figure out how viable it is and how many resources to put at it.  Plus, there teams are pretty busy so I suspect that such a project would have only started recently, if at all.  But Square has proven time and again that they are eager to leverage older games any way they can (as Warning so aptly illustrates) so no way to they let a cash cow like a FF7 remake go.  If they can remake/port the first 6 FFs and Dragon Quest numerous times, I can't imagine them leaving their most successful non-DQ title  ever off the hook.

I love me some Square-Enix but they are motivated far more by their checkbook than artistic  integrity so I think a FF7 remake is a matter of when, not if.
