Wow.  I think it's a pretty rare game.  You could probably buy a used Playstation One and the $20 greatest hits version of FFVIII and get off cheaper.

You'd actually be better off with the PS1 version as well.  The PC ports of FF7 & 8 were pretty awful.  They made all the character models hi-res, but didn't re-render any of the static backgrounds.  So if you run anything higher than 640 X 480, you have these great looking characters running around in front of blurry, pixellated landscapes.  Not good.  The music was also...just...off somehow.  I don't know if it's because of the hardware of the PS1 ran it differently, but the PC versions just didn't sound nearly as good.  Which is a shame considering FF8 is one of Uematsu's best scores (imho).

If you decide you want the PS1 version, let me know.  I've got a copy sitting around collecting dust.

Agreed with Gratch.  During the psx/n64 time, I was a diehard Nintendo fanboy.  I made myself NEVER consider a Playstation, even though Squaresoft was my absolute favorite company of all time.  So I had to resort to buy FFVII and FFVIII for the PC.  Yep, it was pretty sloppy, the graphics were a TINY bit better, the sound is just pretty horrific for both versions.  Good thing I got over that Playstation bias when the PS2 came out   biggrin
