Irrational Game's irrational belief that it's up to the community (aka the customers) to make a bot for the game is what kept me from buying it. It's based off of the Unreal Engine, they could have modified the existing bot AI and ported it over to the Tribes experience. That probably would have required the hiring of an AI programmer (a full-time one) and they had better things to do.
Since they didn't support the singleplayer community, why should we support them?
A singleplayer campaign, IMO, is not enough to make it a "true singleplayer" experience. Sooner than later you beat the campaign, then what? At least for replayablity in singleplayer games you need some type of AI to practice with offline.
Just that - practice. It doens't have to be amazingly intelligent that it takes years to code. Just something to test your skills with offline. Team Factor is a good example, the bots suck, but at least they're there to practice with.
I know I went off topic with this but what I'm getting at is that I agree, it's not a "steal" at $20. I woudn't even pay $10 for it. Now maybe if they paid me $20..
