I guess that they want to clear out inventory before the new consoles come out.

I'm still looking through the thread at Cheapass, but does anyone know if this deal is B&M only?

Historically, Toys 'R' Us has also had games available for purchase on the website that were part of the deal.

That's true, but usually it was a small group of select games eligible for the offer.  Sometimes they had to be for the same system.  Sometimes you could mix and match.  B&M historically was wide open.  Things might be different now that they've broken from Amazon.

well, it's on.  Since there's no TRU nearby I'm limited to online, but I have a bunch of games saved in the shopping cart ready to go if I do decide to get them (Guitar Hero, Kingdom Hearts 2 w/ Dirge of Cerebus for free).

+1.  that's why they're in my shopping cart and not already bought.  Payday is Friday so I'll decide then, but with Ultimate Alliance (and possibly Dark Messiah) coming out Wednesday plus the upcoming slew of games being released after the sale and my recent HDTV purchase I'm trying to rebuild my funds a bit.

I picked up Disgaea 2 for the PS2, and Splinter Cell: Double Agent and NHL 2k6 for the X-Box 360.  Then, in a seperate transaction, I got Metroid Prime: Hunters, New Super Mario Brothers, and Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo DS I purchased just a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the tip on the sale!  icon_smile

In the past you could, but there are rumors that TRU is trying to crack down on that somehow this year, though I'm not sure how they can do that without violating their return policy.

What they did last year was give you a receipt showing you paid 1/3 of the total price for each game.  So if you bought two $50 games and got a third free, you'd get a receipt showing $33.33 for each game.  You could return one, but you'd only get that much credit.

For what it's worth, I have my Toys 'R' Us receipts here right now.  It shows Super Mario 64 and New Super Mario Brothers sold for regular price, and Metroid Prime: Hunters was free thanks to a $34.99 "video promotion."  The same thing is true of my Splinter Cell / NHL / Disgaea receipt -- SC and NHL at regular price, and Disgaea 2 at $0.00.

I don't know if that helps answer the question, but that's how they're ringing things up at two different stores in my area.

Looking for someone who's local TRU has Splinter Cell: DA for the 360 in stock to help a brother out.

I want Enchanted Arms, Guitar Hero, and Splinter Cell: DA.  I'll pay for everything, games + tax + shipping to my place to the cent.

I can check my local stores, -Lord Ebonstone-.  I expect you want to get Guitar Hero packaged with the guitar, though, and I don't think I've seen that in stock locally....

If I can find them, I'll send you a PM prior to making the purchase.  Don't pass up another offer if someone else can help.

-Lord Ebonstone-, I've checked both the Toys 'R' Us stores in my area, and neither of them had any copies of Guitar Hero or Splinter Cell in stock.  They've been fairly well swept clean of a lot of the more popular titles.  I need to go back later this week so I'll check again then, but the clerks I spoke with were pessimistic about getting any significant new shipments in by the end of the week.

Thanks pr0ner.

On the off chance they have Phantasy Star Universe for the 360 or Marvel Alliance for the 360, either of those would do too.

Priority to me is sorta like this:

-Splinter Cell DA
-Marvel Alliance
-Phantasy Star Universe
-Guitar Hero
-Enchanted Arms

If so, I'll go in the morning and see what I can find.

Did anyone ever figure out if you could buy it now and return them in exchange for other games later (like when GoW, COD3, and Vegas all come out?)

I think it varies by store - check the thread at Cheapass Gamer for some details.

Might be too late, but I was at Toys R Us and the store clerk said I could return a game as long as it wasn't opened. You just need to make sure that the game you are returning is not the "free" game on the receipt.
