Some of the older games mentioned are ones I couldn't get to run on Windows XP, much less on Vista 64-bit. Is Steam doing any GoG-ing to make sure these can run on newer OS's? Nope, with Steam it's very much buyer beware. Other than games based on Valve's Source engine, there's not much effort to make them compatible with newer OS's. As well, don't expect Steam support to help you with a non backward compatible game or refund you for one that isn't - they just won't. That said, many of the older games they sell are backward compatible and they deliver the latest patched versions and auto-apply new patches.

Now I know why Odysseus had himself tied to the mast - because you cannot count on your friends.
Sailor 1 to Odysseus : "Dude, those chicks are TOTALLY hawt man - and they're all kissin' each other and stuff!" Odysseus to all of creation: "SHUT. THE. F***. UP!" Odysseus to Sailor 1 : " These ropes are chafing... I think you need to retie them..."

Might as well break down and finally give Burnout Paradise a shot. Won't get much cheaper than that.

I grabbed that, plus the rest of the indie packs I wanted. I figure outside of any OMG daily deals I'll be grabbing a few more games off of my wishlist towards the end and that's it.

I pickup up battlefield 2 and would like to get the vietnam expansion, do you think it will go on sale or is $14.99 as low as it's going to get this holiday?
I get the feeling it's not going to go on sale because it's brand spanking new. Can't hurt to wait until the end of the sale though, unless you absolutely must play it before the end of the year. Wel lthat and it's only $15 at the normal price. That is a super bargain in today's game pricing market. I'd be surprised if EA let Vietnam go on sale so soon. Steam says I already spent 5 hours in Vietnam. This is soooo going to be worth the money. I mean, tanks have flamethrowers now. What's not to love?

I'll likely be the lone dissenting voice, but I thought The Witcher was merely 'meh'. I give them full marks for the remarkable job they did tweaking the NWN engine, but thought the game itself - the lame fetch quests, the endless backtracking, the juvenile "hurrrr, bewbs, hurrrr' humor - was pretty lackluster.

I really enjoyed the game, I thought some of the decisions you made were well done and did have consequences. I was able to map my 360 controller and play it that way and it was great.

definitely more like nwn but with a more active combat system which relies on timing your button presses to keep combos going. it's not a click-fest ala diablo and from a gameplay standard, it is nothing at all like diablo.

Something I discovered deep in the depths of the Steam Store, 1 of my fave arcade racers and it's sequel for truly bargain prices - Flatout $1.49 and Flatout 2 $3.99. My son and I loved playing Flatout on the Xbox, so I bought 2 copies of Flatout 2 so we can make each other eat dirt.

I'm already in for:
Cricket Revolution Evil Genius Medieval II: Total War The Witcher Burnout Paradise: Ultimate Box Men of War Gold Indie flight pack to get the two games in it that weren't in the Thanksgiving Indie flight pack. Still cheaper than buying them separately.

My haul so far: Bethesda Pack The Witcher
Total damage to wallet: $75
I'm hoping they won't have anymore sales that I would be tempted to buy.
*Sigh* Just bought Puzzle Quest and Greed, total: $4
So now total damage is up to $79.

Picked up Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for only $3.60. Steam gave me a further discount from the $5.10 sale price because I already owned another Tomb Raider game.

After the sale season is over, I'd really get a kick out of having you list your ENTIRE backlog. I'm starting to flex my index finger muscles now in preparation of some heavy use of my scroll wheel.

Glad I picked it up in the sale. Yea, they are pretty good too.. "dark" sort of fantasy. sort of remind me of the old "thieves world" Tales of the vulgar unicorn or something from back in the day. The one I read was short stories, but there are a few different ones from itunes.

Glad I picked it up in the sale. they're written by Andrzej Sapkowski most of them are in Polish right now. for English versions there's The Last Wish which is a compilation of short stories told as a series of flashbacks, and then Blood of Elves. I haven't read BoE yet but I've heard complaints they skipped bringing over another collection that helps set up some of the characters in it.
