Steam Holiday Sale 2010 - IT'S STARTED!!!!1!

Picked up Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for $6.25. It's been a long time since I played a battlefield game, but I felt I needed a shooter that wasn't CoD style.

Sweet, come to our server, it's a squad deathmatch type.  Really fun and you can rack up points quicker than ctf.  I'll get the ip later today and post it.

I've seen this for sale twice now but I've passed it up both times because I'm just afraid it's old enough to where no one is playing it online much. That's basically all that game is. I'd hate to buy it to find out it's dead.

Nope, Dawhawk, bunch of servers/people still playing it through the week and a lot more on the weekends.  I just started playing again a couple weekends ago and it's still kickin!

I get the feeling it's not going to go on sale because it's brand spanking new. Can't hurt to wait until the end of the sale though, unless you absolutely must play it before the end of the year.

Also, for anyone tempted by the most recent Prince of Persia game on sale: realize that it has that Ubisoft DRM which requires you to be online at all times while playing the game. This made me decide to pick it up later for Xbox or PS3 (if I don't lose interest), instead of taking advantage of the current sale.

Thanks for the reminder.  I picked up Two Thrones last night, and am on the fence about the cell-shaded one.  Was it any good?

I liked the cel shaded PoP quite a bit, but it's fairly different from the original trilogy in several ways.  Still retains the crazy acrobatic stuff, just changes the focus from demanding skill in making the jumps to puzzling out the route you need to use to get from A to B, then making the actual execution of that route more automated.

I bought the newest one without even thinking about the crummy DRM.  I'm kind of annoyed, but I guess I'll live.

Some of the older games mentioned are ones I couldn't get to run on Windows XP, much less on Vista 64-bit. Is Steam doing any GoG-ing to make sure these can run on newer OS's?

Anyone having issues with Steam?  I was going to install Fallout 3 and when I click the Steam icon on windows, it tells me that Steam's running already and I can't open another one.  But, Steam's not running, wth?

try rebooting your PC or check your task manager and see if there's an instance of Steam still running under processes.  I have had it occasionally not shut down right.

I've got the whole lot on a considerable number of CDs, so a couple of months ago I jumped on the chance to buy it from GOG, also for the convenience.  A timelessly classic game.
