Looks like the Witcher series is also on sale:

Witcher:    $1.99
Witcher 2: $3.99

No excuse not to buy Witcher 2 at that price. Wow.

they also made both games free to play this weekend.  while it is in no way enough time to finish even one playthrough of Witcher 2, if you have any doubts, now is the time to try them.

I've really enjoyed what I have played of this one so far.  Frankly, it's more what I expected from "a new Tim Shafer adventure game" than what I got out of Broken Age.  Certainly more humor in it.

If I get ME2, is it worth getting ME as well? Or are the game mechanics so much better in ME2 that ME would be a disappointment?

Also, the only things I would care about in the Deluxe Digital edition of ME2 would be the
Quote
Collector Armor and Assault Rifle - Two bonus in-game items: advanced regeneration armor and a powerful enemy-shredding assault rifle.
Incisor Rifle - Bonus in-game weapon. Firing three shots with each pull of the trigger, the Incisor Rifle is designed to decimate shields.
Are they of a significant enough impact to ME2 that they would be worth the extra $2.50 USD?

ME1 has a much different structure, but imho, it's worth getting if nothing else for the story and save game continuation. if you want to forgo the longer requirement to play through ME1 and go the wiki/youtube route, then look up ME1 save game generators or import other people's progress based on their choices.  you can get some of them if you jump right in, but I don't think it's everything iirc.

If I were looking for a PC replay, I'd go with the bundle ME1+2 and skip the DD version.

oh, one final thing regarding DLC.  EA/Bioware never bothered to put the ME2 DLC on steam, so you need to go through the bioware store, which is a bit of a joke imo.  the dlc doesn't go on sale, has not had a price drop and is significant enough that you would want to buy them if you are interested in the full story and/or looking at ME3 afterwards.

I've been a console player for several years, so I'm not familiar with Origin. What kind of adversity would I be seeing dealing with Origin?

it's EA's response to Steam and gets a lot of hate for that.  in actuality, it's a functional client for downloading games but lacks the polish and bells and whistles of Steam.  if you go this route, get the 'PC download' option;  it gives you the keys you punch into Origin.  the other option works similarly to Humble Bundle games now where the code gets added to your account once you buy it.  takes more work to set up though.

Thanks for the quick response! I notice Mass Effect 3 isn't on Steam. Is this one of those "it will be on there someday" or "EA is never going to put it on Steam because it takes away from Origin's business"?

Probably the latter.  It will likely never be on Steam, or at least not for a long long time.

i have little faith that bioware/EA ever puts this on steam.  they don't like putting gold/goty versions out for this series and the only other example of an EA published game to return to Steam was Crysis 2.
