Insecticide Part 1 $1.01
http://store.steampowered.com/app/16710/

just a heads up, the PC version of part 2 got cancelled:

Quote
To clarify, the full DS version of the game shipped, as did Part I of the PC downloadable version. However, Part II of the PC version was cancelled, although we were well into production. I wish I could say it was because of some anti-adventure game conspiracy or the assets were stolen by a band of thieves looking to sell game inventory items on the black market, or something similarly dramatic. I also wish I had a million dollars.

Unfortunately, that's not the case, and I don't. If it was, it might be easier to understand the whole thing, or fund Part II myself. Instead, the game was cancelled due to a whole host of complicated financial, technical, and marketing issues that I don't quite follow, but suspect had something to do with nobody buying the game.

Essentially, our original publisher, Gamecock, had this crazy idea of funding indie titles based on crazy ideas like Insecticide. We were very much in favor of this plan, but I guess the sales figures for their first titles weren't as supportive of the idea, and by the time ours came along and did mediocre business, the writing was on the wall, and probably some of it hit the fan too, and basically things weren't looking as promising.

However, we were heads down working on Part 2, hoping to deliver the definitive conclusion to the adventure for all 52 of our screaming fans, so we were surprised to learn that South Peak had bought Gamecock. Then the new publisher pretty much ignored us for a month or two while they "evaluated" the prospects of our title, which also wasn't a good sign. They ultimately decided not to publish Part II, and we never got much of an explanation, but I'm guessing someone there with a calculator was predicting trouble with the whole venture. Either that or they were just creeped out by bugs.

I bit on Wargame: European Escalation. Always wanted it and for $19 seems like a great deal.  Just did the first/tutorial mission and so far i'm impressed.  Runs great as well.

Honestly I'm not sure there is much there that will even interest me.  I've bought most of the things I'm interested in previously, including so many stupid bundles and packs with games I've never played.  Besides, most of these packs have been in a couple previous Steam sales, so if you haven't bought them before why would you now?

Agreed, there's a few in the Indie section that I don't have, but have like the other 4 in the packs...

that's the situation I'm in-  the first 8 days all have 1-2 games I'm interested in, and 1 of those each day is a new release since the Holiday sale.  hopefully they'll have gifting this time around.

OK, I was just browsing the forums for this one trying to decide whether or not it was worth it, and found out that apparently there is no save feature during missions, which means if you start one you have to see it all the way through.  not necessarily a big deal on the shorter missions but it would truly suck to be playing one of the several hour missions only to make a small mistake towards the end (or if the game crashed) and having to redo the several hours over again.

Crusader Kings 2: Sword of Islam and Songs of the Caliph
Shogun 2: Rise of the Samurai

I'm eying the Avernum games, they're current $5.99 for 4-6 and I doubt it'll go much lower, plus the Kohan Warchest is $4.99.

Hmm. Only thing I might buy is the Fall of the Samurai and even that i'm not sure of. Likely would have gotten Ridge Racer if it was half that price. And Modern Warfare 3 is still too expensive at that price at this point. Might gift Grimrock and Portal 2 though. Other than that kinda a stinker for opening highlighted deals for me - but I know part of it is I've already purchased most of the games I want to own when they went on sale previously. So slim picking for things I actually want.

Also noticed Defense Grid bundle was cheaper than it was offered for the previous day when I gifted it.  disgust

OK, questions:

1) Yea/Nay on Mafia 2? And if so, is the story DLC any good?
2) Any reason to double dip on Deus EX HR if I already have it on 360? (haven't played it yet)

Gameplay wise the Kohan games have held up very well since no one has attempted the model again.  Graphically they might be a bit dated, but they all look better than Avernum.  If you have even a passing interest in strategy gaming, you should pick up the Kohan series.  I completed all three games.  That's pretty rare for me.

Just make sure you don't play Ahriman's gift first since it starts out at the end difficulty of Immortal Sovereigns.   Now go buy like a good consumer.

OK, questions:

1) Yea/Nay on Mafia 2? And if so, is the story DLC any good?
2) Any reason to double dip on Deus EX HR if I already have it on 360? (haven't played it yet)

1) heard they weren't.  the Vendetta one is supposedly a bunch of arcade like missions while Joe's Adventure involvves Joe, and I really didn't like Joe.
2) mouse/keyboard support?  sharper graphics? maybe because you double dipped you'll feel obligated to actually play it?

Gameplay wise the Kohan games have held up very well since no one has attempted the model again.  Graphically they might be a bit dated, but they all look better than Avernum.  If you have even a passing interest in strategy gaming, you should pick up the Kohan series.  I completed all three games.  That's pretty rare for me.

Just make sure you don't play Ahriman's gift first since it starts out at the end difficulty of Immortal Sovereigns.   Now go buy like a good consumer.

I loved the first one, can't remember if I got the second game or the actual sequel.  I was just worried the interface would feel too clunky nowadays.
