No. Everyone and their dog is trying to get to the sale. Remember that this will be up for 24 hours.

Arggh! Am I the only one constantly getting a "Error 503 Service Unavailable" error when attempting to access on sale games?
Nope, you're not the only one.

Actually, depending on the games, sometimes they run out of licenses to sell.

Nope, you're not the only one. Yeah, I'm apparently a permanent member of the 503 club.

Actually, depending on the games, sometimes they run out of licenses to sell. I was trying to access the store pages for relatively older games - Civ 5 and WH 40k DoW2. I'd be surprised if Valve doesn't have something close to an unlimitted license for those by now. On another note I'm wondering about a wait-&-see strategy for some of the games offered in the Publisher Deals. Most of those are discounted in the 25-50% range, and I know from past sales a number of them dropped to 66-75% in a daily deal during the Holiday sale. I personally couldn't care less about any game that ends up costing $7.50 or less after discount; I bought a 3rd copy of Medieval 2 TW Gold today for $5 and if it ends up being $2.50 later in the month so what. I'm looking to get 2 copies each of WH40k DoW2 Gold and Civ 5 collection though, which after their 50% discounts are going to end up costing me $30 and $50 respectively. If those get discounted lower in any of the daily sales I stand to loose enough money to stop and think about being more patient. I'm lookin for some feedback on this - are strat games like WH40K DoW2 and Civ 5 likely to be offered at a better discount in a daily deal? Or I guess another question is; do the Publisher Deals remain for the duration of the sale?

when that happens either they don't say anything or they pull the game from sale; I think this error is just everyone and their pet turkey trying to get on Steam.

Yes and yes. The publisher deals are expected to remain constant until January 2 nd, and both the games you're interested in are very likely to see another 15-25% drop as part of a Daily Deal before then. -Autistic Angel

Yeah, as usual, if you aren't ready to jump on a game immediately, always wait until the last day of the sale when they will most likely go back on sale.

I don't think they did this for the Autumn/Thanksgiving sale, so they may change their stripes this year...

I may end up grabbing the Ubisoft pack for $69.99. the fiancee wants to play Might & Magic Heroes VI, and since that's still $49.99 it doesn't make much sense not to grab if for From Dust and M&M: Clash of Heroes.
today I'll definitely be grabbing:
Runaway: Twist of Fate $4.99 The Next Big Thing $7.49 Fable: The Lost Chapters $2.49

It was pretty decent. I had played it way back on Gametap and it ran and looked fine. There isn't much to the expansion portion of the game (an hour or two) but the entire game as a whole was fun.

How was Fable on PC? With Fable the Lost Chapters, it's really more of an issue of whether you want to play it without glitches. The game is backward compatible on the 360, but there's issues and the extent of those seem to vary from 360 to 360. I only received an occassional annoying static-scratchy sound and some frame rate slowdown, but other people have found it nearly unplayable. The PC version also had a graphic edge in that they improved textures and allowed for better resolutions. Here's what the IGN reviewer had to say about the graphics for Lost Chapter PC. The textures are much better on the PC than they were on the Xbox. That and the higher resolutions possible on the PC make Fable: The Lost Chapters a very striking game. The overall visual style helps the game stand out from other RPGs. And the extra (lost) chapters did help to make it feel like a more decent length game.

I had the original Fable for pc and enjoyed it, but have no clue where it vanished too? My bro said Fable 2 was the best? I doubt I'll be getting much this year from the sale this year too. Between MW3 and SWTOR, I won't have much free time to play anything else. Plus when I started buying Steam games 2-3 years ago, I haven't had as much a desire for many games lately...

today it looks like: Realm of the Diggle Gods $.74 hmmm... gonna have to dig through my wishlist and round out the cart a bit, no sense charging on 74 cents [edit] kinda annoyed they didn't put the new Duke DLC on sale I think that's probably the only way they'd actually sell it.

I saw the video for Dredmore and it looks like the whole screen is essentially filled with monsters and looks like no fun at all. Can someone explain why that is fun? I think I'm going to grab Recettear and I would recommend others to do so as well (or at least wait to see if it comes up on a daily deal). I checked the Steam forums and someone said "just download the demo and you will buy it" and they were right. The story sounds like it will be fun and quirky and I am LOVING the Japanese-ish music. Definitely grabbing it for only $5.
Oops I see that Recettear is a daily deal today. Well I guess I will be getting it then.

To help you all keep track,I've built a TABLE!! You can head over to Canucks thread and keep yours up-to-date! Note, once Ceekay posts his, you won't feel so bad about the money you've spent. Quote this and edit as you see fit. | Date | Original | Sale Price | % Saved | Item Purchased | | mm/dd | $ -.-- | $ -.-- | --% | ------ | | mm/dd | $ -.-- | $ -.-- | --% | ------ | | mm/dd | $ -.-- | $ -.-- | --% | ------ | | mm/dd | $ -.-- | $ -.-- | --% | ------ | | ---------- | ----------- | ------------ | ------- | -------------------------- | | TOTAL: | $ -.-- | $ -.-- | --% | (x) Items |
I'd put all DLC for one game at one time as one item. My 2c.(which steam just squeezed outta me)

I'm equally unimpressed with the CoD MW2 discount. There's 2 newer games in that franchise and its more than 2 years old now, so IMO even the $30 regular price on Steam is a bit dubious. Considering I bought CoD4 GOTY in a big box store last year for $20 with no sale involved, selling the base MW2 for $15 after discount seems like a piss poor deal to me.

I would have taken Batman: Arkham City for 75% off, but not 50%. I already beat it on 360, and I'd like to replay it. Perhaps getting it on 360 would be best. Does anyone have it for PC? How do the graphics compare?

The deals haven't been as good, either. In the past it wasn't unusual to see 66-75% off on AAA titles. Now it's generally 50% or less... only indie/lesser known titles get the huge price cuts lately, it seems.
