The Microsoft Store is running a deal for anybody who is an Xbox Rewards member (and there's no reason not to be, it's free and you get money back) where you will get $15 worth of credits back for preordering "any of the hottest upcoming games".  I think they have to be games that ship this year, fwiw.  Most of these titles also get $10 back if you're not a member, but really, just sign up and get the better reward instead.

They also give free shipping and supposedly release day delivery, so that takes out the two legs Amazon Prime usually stands on for me.  I decided to preorder Sunset Overdrive and LEGO Batman 3.  They have pretty much everything else available to that I could see.

Here's the store link I got[/url from their email.

I want this deal for digital editions - I have no interest in swapping MCC in and out - it will be played for quite some time, and likely never traded in.

I just don't get it.

While on the Sony side, I totally agree with this sentiment.  If Sony/MS wants us to go digital, look at what Steam did with their pre-order sale prices.  Give us a reason to give you a bigger cut of our money by acknowledging that digital works better for the company than physical and cut the digital price through specials like these.

I don't get it either.  Outside of a few promotions, you are not getting much (if at all) of an incentive to go with a digital copy.  I finished up Infamous and did everything in the game.  If I had bought it on a disc, I would have been able to recoup almost 80% of the cost.

If you buy 3 games digitally between September 4 and Nov. 30th you'll get 20K points. Not as good, but something.

For a company trying so hard to transition to digital, though, it doesn't make a ton of sense. It's probably better margins for what they sell via Amazon at least.

Yeah, it seems clear that neither console manufacturer has really figured out why Steam is so popular and how to get more people transitioned to digital.  I can get a new game from Amazon for cheaper than digital, and I can get an old game way cheaper anywhere than their digital prices.

I'll continue to buy disc-based games as long as they continue to have bad pricing policies on downloads.

I was actually planning on getting Sunset Overdrive digitally until I saw this deal.

Probably would have done the same for Halo: MCC if the option had been available.
