Ok, Steam has a deal on pre-orders of The Orange Box.  If you get it now, you get $5 off (so it's $45 total... plus tax), and it also gets you into the beta test for Team Fortress 2.

And, of course, if you are like me and haven't purchased HL2 yet, you get HL2 and ep1.

Hmmm... not sure why it doesn't include deathmatch and "Lost Coast".

[edit] nevermind.  The bundle as listed in the Steam client is as follows:

Quote
Half-Life 2: Lost Coast
Half-Life 2: Episode One
Portal *
Peggle Extreme
Half-Life 2: Episode Two *
Team Fortress 2 *
Source SDK
Source SDK Base
Half-Life 2

The * stuff is, obviously, not yet released.

I'm kinda surprised that it doesn't include Counter Strike Source, but TF2 will be far better anyway. smile

I'm really torn on which platform to get this on.  My current PC crushes HL2 and Ep 1 at 1680x1050 but I here that Ep 2 ups the graphics ante a bit.  From what I can tell the 360 version features visual improvements across the board but I'm not sure I want to replay the first two segments without benefit of mouselook.

I paid for Ep1 and HL2. I am not paying full price for them a second time.

I think I'm their target sucker for this plan.  I paid for Ep1 and HL2.  I really really want TF2 and Ep2.  It sounds like even if they are possibly going to resurrect the Black Box, it surely won't be at release.  So now I'm certainly paying at least $45 for the Orange Box to be able to have it right away.

And hey, what's that over there?  The 360 version for just $10 more and the ability to have the whole shebang on my shiny new HDTV.

So yeah, I'm going to be re-buying Ep1 & HL2, and I'm not even that upset about it.

technically you're not paying full price  icon_wink  I look at it this way, I'm not paying for them a second time at all.  worst case scenario I'll end up sharing a friends Steam account to play Episode 2, but they've mentioned it will be sold seperately.

I will order ep2 via Steam.

I'm not that much of an achievement whore that I need the 360 version.

That being said, if EVERYONE is playing it tree-hicks-tee I'll bite and get it for the MP.

edit: I left the not out; I think my freudian slip may be showing. biggrin

You sure about that?  I'd expect even slight achievement whores would be drooling over the 99 Orange Box achievements, many of which look pretty unique and fun.  I'm one of the "meh"-est people you'll find with regards to achievements, but even I have to admit things like "OSHA Violation," "Pin a soldier to the billboard," and "Trick an opposing medic into healing you" sound pretty fun to try.

Have they actually mentioned this any time recently?  Since the Black Box was cancelled?

Kind of strange.  I ordered it, the price said "plus tax"... but they didn't charge tax.  Not that I'm complaining.

as long as the addon isn't more than 20, i'll pick it up on steam.

now, if it's closer to the full price, then it makes a 360 rental/purchase more interesting to me as i would really like to see what they may do to bring the visuals up for the 360.  would be worth a replay if it was done right.

One thing worth noting is that Episode 2, Portal, and TF2 bought together, according to the official pricing announcements, will cost $50.

I figured why not save five bucks?

Preordered for $45 and I now have bonus keys for HL2 and Episode 1 that I can give away.

And you can also get into the TF2 beta, if that's of interest.

I bought Half-life 2 and episode 1 for my PC, and I'm going to get the 360 version, better graphics than what my again pc can put out, though the cheaper price and beta are tempting.

'peggle extreme'?

Go Google it - it's like Plinco from The Price Is Right, but...different. Sorta.

It's really hard to explain, but it's a fun little game for those bored moments at work.

looks more like $80 bucks according to the site, unless I'm missing a bundle somewhere.  4 of us are pitching in for Episode 2- Portal and TF2 can wait.
